Inspiration

We were inspired by the Freiburg and Norderstedt challenges - Collaborative City Idea Management and "Bürger machen mit".

What it does

WirStadt is an app that lets citizens voice and discuss ideas, questions and feedback about their city's infrastructure.

How we built it

We started with a long brainstorming session with the whole team to find out what might be most relevant to our users. We then continued to produce a few prototype iterations while laying the technical foundation for the app. The app frontend is built with React Native while the backend is a Postgres database coupled with a REST API.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into some challenges coordinating the creation of prototypes while building the app at the same time. Another challenge was transforming the open dataset's X and Y coordinates into latitude and longitude degrees.

I worked on the backend, setting up the data infrastructure, importing and normalizing the Norderstedt datasets, and implementing the custom photo upload.
