Inspiration
We observed Netflix's Bandersnatch and saw its potential to provide insight into student behavior and understanding.
What it does
Our app allows teachers to create branching videos. We realized that branching videos are much more interactive. Most importantly, based on stories of how Bandersnatch gave Netflix greater insight into consumer behavior, we decided that it would be a good idea to apply that idea to education.
How we built it
We utilized React.js and CSS for the front-end and AWS for the backend. React interacted with a RESTful api to post and get student data from databases in DynamoDB.
Challenges we ran into
Making our interactive video editor was very hard! We were required to figure out how we were going to collect data from our UI. However, we came up with a solution that we were all satisfied with.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The interactive video editor! It provides teachers a simple and elegant way to create branching videos. Furthermore, the data received from these videos will be stored in a database. Teachers can later visualize this data via graphs.
What we learned
Scoping is very important, we had to stay focused on creating a minimum viable product before we created additional features.
What's next for Whiteboard
We believe that we have discovered a fairly decent idea. We would like to expand upon this idea to make it available to the public.
