Inspiration
After college everyone is trying to find out where their full-time job will be. Many people move to places that do not enable an easy quality of life due to many factors such as an expensive housing market or lack of a job market for your career field. Also, graduates are asking the question of where should I live that enables me to be in a great job market and upon getting a job, be able to have enough money to make a good living. We effectively wanted to try to optimize the equation of finding a place to begin a thriving career.
What it does
We created an app that enables the user to input some details of themselves and ideal career information to give the user where it is best that they move to.
How we built it
First, we had to gather our own data. We used data from a variety of federal and private sources and these include BLS and Zillow. We built the app with React Native and the backend is built using Azure, CosmoDB, and Azure Functions. We also used python to write some of the backend functions.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge that we ran into was just being able to find good metrics that give us useful insight into what makes a city better to live in than another.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we enabled data synthesis with other means other than the normal means of like a dashboard with KPIs.
What we learned
We learned a lot about how to effectively combine different data sources into one unified view enabling better analysis of that data.
Built With
- azure
- cosmodb
- python
- react-native
