Inspiration
During my years studying in Manhattan, I often felt as though I were standing at a vast crossroads. By day, the streets overflowed with motion; by night, the city rested. Yet no matter the hour, there was always a group of people still running— for identity, for opportunity, for a place to call their own.
I created this film to capture the footsteps that go unseen in the crowds.
The film draws inspiration from Jacques Tati, Salvador Dalí, and René Magritte, blending surreal compositions with the everyday vibrancy of Manhattan and a layer of poetic visual language to portray the nuanced reality of the modern immigrant journey, as well as from the people around me who never stop moving forward.
In an era of shifting policies and accelerating technology, they persist quietly—leaving home, crossing languages and cultures, and searching for possibility in a world that never stands still.
I am repeatedly moved by this “silent strength.” The immigrant experience is rarely explosive; it is made of small, honest fragments: the early-morning commute, the late-night homework, the invisible anxieties, the fragile sense of safety without an anchor. These moments form much of their life in America—and the heartbeat of this film.
I hope this work allows audiences to hear the voices that are often overlooked— not political arguments, not grand narratives, but the breaths, footsteps, and persistence of individuals.
This short film is not about “arrival,” but about “continuing forward.” It is about those who still carry hope while walking through shadows; those searching for belonging and dignity on unfamiliar ground; and the way dreams quietly take root through silence and resilience.
What it does
The film weaves together surreal compositions, the everyday vibrancy of Manhattan, and poetic imagery to portray the complex realities of the modern immigrant journey. It follows those who cross oceans, borders, and invisible social barriers in pursuit of their own version of the American Dream. Rather than offering answers, the film creates a space to be seen and understood—a space to reflect on identity, belonging, and the cost of striving for a better life.
Challenges we ran into
This is our first film created entirely with AI, produced across multiple AI image-generation platforms. To maintain a cohesive visual language throughout the project, we invested significant time and effort in fine-tuning, aligning, and rebuilding the imagery. Despite the complexity of working with diverse AI systems, we worked to ensure that the final film presents a unified aesthetic and a consistent emotional tone.
