Inspiration
We noticed that it can be difficult to find available parking when attending popular events and concerts. Google Maps does not really show parking spots near certain spots which is why we implemented this on the Google Maps API to make it easier for users to find parking spots.
What it does
When the user opens the website, they must allow the website to use their location to pinpoint and then it asks them for a specific radius in meters to find possible restaurants and parking spaces.
How we built it
We utilized many APIs such as INRIX Off Street API and Yelp Fusion API to pinpoint specific restaurants and parking spaces displayed depending on the radius that the user inputted. The Google Maps API is implemented to display the locations of the several parking spaces and restaurants near the user.
Challenges we ran into
For this hackathon, we initially had problems with receiving access to the APIs in the INRIX database of APIs. Then, we had problems with accessing the tokens since the authorization of the APIs kept expiring.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the UI design of the web application and the successful implementation of the Google Maps API and markers. It was difficult to start this Hackathon but we were able to accomplish displaying the Google Maps API and radius which created a good foundation for our future implementation of the project.
What we learned
We learned that programming takes a lot of time of planning, problem solving, knowledge, and critical thinking to create a successful web application but also to debug the code. Most of the time the problems we faced was the bugs in the code. This also shows that teamwork in a work setting is crucial to develop a successful product which has the feedback and input of many people.
What's next for What do we do?
This experience has allowed us to better understand the application of APIs and we will continue to learn more about APIs and implement it to future projects and hackathons.
