Inspiration 🧠

With current environmental and social challenges in mind, we can say, that Smart Cities are becoming the need of modern society. Many cities in the world are already transforming their ways to be more efficient, greener, and also safer. One of the problems of big cities is street crime. Most crimes take place in highly populated cities, a big part of which are offenses done outside and in public places.

In 2020, there were 538,203 violent-crime incidents, and 640,836 offenses reported in the United States. This indicates that a lot of crime is happening around us and people need to be aware of these crimes. As a society, we only want a sense of security and comfort. And prevention of crime is needed by the community to live more comfortably.

What it does 💻

WeSafe provides a platform where you can pinpoint the place where the crime happened by filling in the date, time period, address, type of crime, and description if necessary. In addition, you can view crime statistics in the city you are in or where you want to go. We also send notifications through emails, so you can get the latest crime that happened in your area

With this platform, the public becomes aware of the crimes that are happening around them and can help the local government to collect and analyze real-time data in urban areas, providing more rapid and agile service to the public. Also, this platform can help foreigners to avoid some dangerous places.

Our goal is we want to reduce the crime rate to ensure a safe and comfortable life for everyone.

How we built it 🔨

  • Front-end: HTML, CSS, Javascript, and React.Js
  • Back-end: Javascript, NeDB, Express.Js

Challenges we ran into 🤯

  1. Designing on Figma because we don't have any UI/UX role.
  2. Implementing Google Maps API.
  3. Deciding which design is the best.
  4. Different timezones (Québec, France, and Indonesia)

Accomplishments that we're proud of 💪

  1. Implement Google Maps API in a short amount of time.
  2. We always communicate and discuss during the hackathon.
  3. Complete this hackathon with maximum results in a limited time

What we learned ✍

In 24 hours we manage to learn a lot of things such as how to pitch an idea, brainstorm, research about smart cities, work with different timezone, and implement a Google Maps API.

What's next for We-Safe ⏭

We will work closely with local communities and local municipalities to implement this platform. Also, we will socialize this platform to the wider community to raise awareness of the crime around.

DISCLAIMER : Since we build this project using apis (juste like the google map one) you might need to try a few times if the api is down.
