Inspiration
For years, I watched my best friend struggle to lose weight.
She tried almost every app, quick-fix diet, and “1-month weight loss challenge.”
But each time, after only a few weeks, she fell back into old habits.
I realized that the problem was not a lack of willpower, but that all these solutions demanded too much, too fast.
They didn’t leave time to build real healthy habits, progressively, and above all, they weren’t adapted to the reality of daily life.
This is where the idea of Weithy was born.
Weithy is my first application, my first experience as a founder.
It was also a personal challenge.
What it does
Weithy is a 52-week gamified program, divided into 13 progressive stages and designed by a certified coach.
Week after week, it helps users gradually change their habits to finally reach their weight goals. Each week, realistic challenges are proposed around nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle habits.
The progression system is simple and motivating:
- With at least 2 days validated, the next week unlocks.
- With 4 days or more, users can preview the following week’s challenge in advance.
- With 0 or 1 day validated, the week must be repeated.
To support a healthy approach to weight management, users are guided to weigh themselves only once a week and can log it directly in the app.
From the very first onboarding steps, the experience is personalized based on user responses. The Weithy mascot is present throughout this journey, making the process more human and engaging. At the end of onboarding, a tailored profile is generated to deliver a customized program.
👉 Weithy was designed for real life: daily constraints, unexpected events, and lack of time.
That’s why each challenge is simple, realistic, and easy to integrate into any routine.
The app also provides a minimalist dashboard, clear weekly tracking, and smart reminders, adapted to both weight loss and weight gain goals.
How we built it
I built Weithy entirely on my own, from backend to frontend to design.
- Frontend: Flutter
- Backend: Kotlin + Spring Boot
- Subscriptions: RevenueCat
- Notifications: Firebase Cloud Messaging (localized by language)
Challenges we ran into
- Managing to complete the entire project as a solo founder, despite daily life and fatigue.
- Designing a progressive 52-week journey tailored to each user profile, with the help of a certified coach.
- Finding the right balance between gamification and a minimalist interface.
- Developing everything alone, while learning different technical areas along the way.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Turning a real-life inspired idea into an app now live on the App Store.
- Receiving positive feedback from early testers and first users after launch.
- Successfully handling all technical development and design solo.
What we learned
- That a health and wellness product should not promise quick results, but focus on durable change adapted to real life.
- That it is possible, even as a solo founder, to build a complete product and have it validated by Apple.
- That listening to feedback and co-building with users and experts is essential.
What's next for Weithy
- Build an Android version to broaden accessibility.
- Enhance user experience with more personalization.
- Add social features to strengthen engagement.
- Focus on marketing, both on social media and in real-life interactions, to grow the community.
