I was inspired by a news article which said that due to out of season rains the crops of farmers in maharashtra (India) were ruined . It also stated that if we did have accurate weather prediction then this could have been averted. I did a bit research after that and realized weather data collection is really costly currently and this issue not only impacts farmers but impacts many different industries in the world. There had to be an easier way to collect weather data.

What it does

It collects barometric data from mobile phones over a large network . After a series of noise reduction and optimization algorithms it makes the data readily available. It combines the data with existing data sources from their API such as statalite and weather station data then feeds it into existing weather machine learning models . So machine learning / neural net algorithm models use air pressure data and other relevant data as an input and give the prediction as the output .All Weather prediction models are actually pretty standerd in this behalf here is a relevant article https://link.medium.com/WGtrY2GeXob

This entry was just a pitch entry so we haven't build it yet but we are really looking forward to build our idea

Challenges we ran into

Research was one of the important challenges we ran into since there is not a lot a information readily available on the internet on this topic. But after reading many research papers and putting together information bit by bit we were able to collect the scientific proof and background we needed to support our pitch

What we learned

In learnt how to manage time , do research and improved my presentation skills and dealing with perfectionism, trying to fit in the the right amount of reverent information in a video while keeping it engaging it

What's next for Weather World

We will build out this project and hopefully someday release this as a service maybe integrate it with some big company with a large userbase. Looking forward to learn more.
