Inspiration

Our inspiration is the issue with people ordering clothes online but not meeting the customers expectation upon arrival. This reduces customer satisfaction and drives costs for sellers.

What it does

Our system allows users to compare clothing to their body at scale 1:1 on a screen. It's a virtual dressing room of sorts and should give users a better understanding of which products meet their needs.

How I built it

Initially we discussed different functionalities and the pro's and cons, this involved the entire team. Then we started sketching some layouts and comparing them, once we found something we liked I made a mockup in Photoshop. After that I started to build a prototype of the product with my teammate Teng Zhang, most of the html & css was written by ourselves and I scoured the web to find some examples of Javascript functionality that might be of use to us. I found some drag-and-drop script, along with a menu system and we proceeded to merge these technologies together.

Challenges I ran into

Brainstorming a concept proved tedious, despite having written up quite a lot of ideas we had to be critical of ourselves and so mostly either found flaws in a concept or found that our ideas had already been done. The first day of the hackathon was almost entirely spent on the concept. My experience with Javascript is quite limited so we got stuck a few times but eventually managed to implement some base functionality.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The 1:1 scale of the application gives it it's power, it helps to see how something will fit when you're able to overlay it at that scale. The app doesn't cause heavy loads and the picture clients use remains client side so there's no risk of privacy issues for people who want to use it.

What I learned

I was confronted with how competitive retail is, and that it's challenging to "reinvent the wheel" in this case. I think that although many things have already been done, they are often not applied everywhere where they can be of benefit.

What's next for "Wear It Right"

Honestly, I'm not sure. I'm confident that the basic functionality that we're proposing is the future in some shape or form. I'm curious to see if our take on the virtual dressing room is at the right place and time to succeed.

Thanks very much for having us! :)
