Inspiration

The biggest problem with modern education is that financial literacy is not being taught in schools. This results in financial challenges during adulthood, making it harder to maintain stability and security. Financial literacy is something my parents are teaching me now because of how much they struggled through adulthood. However, since many people don't have access to essential financial topics, I created Wealth-Bridge: an easy-use app that allows users to solve everyday financial struggles easily.

What it does

My app's goal is to improve financial literacy and it does this with 3 main features: an expense tracker, an AI chatbot, and a real-life scenarios section.

With the expense tracker, the user can organize their income/expenses and visualize it with a circle graph on the side, allowing them to know how well their budgeting is. Additionally, there is an AI Advisor to give the user helpful advice about their spending habits based on their income.

The AI Chatbot's goal is to answer any questions the user may have about their finances. For example, they can ask about improving credit, how to budget better, etc. The chatbot acts as a teacher to make sure all of the user's finance questions are answered effectively.

Finally, the financial scenarios section allows the user to answer randomized AI-generated questions about real-life scenarios they may face. The user can pick from a variety of topics including budgeting, saving, debt management, investment, emergency situations, and retirement planning. After the user answers these questions, they get real-time feedback on their mistakes and decisions, making sure they are successful when these problems occur in the real world.

How we built it

Used TypeScript/Javascript, HTML, CSS. Libraries include Tailwind CSS, Radix UI, Lucide React, React. OpenAI API (free tokens). Tools/Code Editors include CoPilot, Lovable(free plan), VS Code.

Challenges we ran into

Challenges I ran into included integrating the API into all different parts of the app from the AI Advisor to AI-powered Financial Scenarios. Additionally, integrating a well-designed system role for each feature was a difficult task.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am extremely proud of the scenarios section of my web application. While most apps that involve learning just provide lessons, this feature gives the user a fun way to learn and provides effective feedback based on their responses.

What we learned

I learned about different libraries in the process of building the app and how they can be used to improve user engagement. Additionally, I learned how to use different tools to enhance the coding experience such as Loveable and CoPilot. These tools helped with debugging and improving UI.

What's next for WealthBridge

Later on, WealthBridge will begin using other ways to teach users about finance such as gamified lessons. Additionally, we will train a pre-trained model (like OpenAI) to make sure it is more effective in providing feedback and answering questions.
