Quick Note: There's more live potholes in live demo than video since I recorded it much earlier.

Inspiration

Everywhere I drive in Ontario has been riddled with potholes with news articles reporting an alarming number of potholes in Toronto alone. But the system is flawed. Reporting a pothole is a tedious and frustrating process with lots of friction that makes most people just move on with their day.

What it does

WayWise runs in the background of your phone and only turns on when it detects driving. Based on information collected from the phone (speed changes, shaking, direction) it determines if a pothole exists at a point depending on how many other cars experience the same effects. It then sends it to a dashboard displaying pothole points on a map with confidence scores, urgency, and location.

How we built it

I used map box for the map and native IOS data. Frontend with Vite/ReactJS and backend with Fastify.

Challenges we ran into

Time constraint didn't allow for me to make a pretty UI.

What's next for WayWise

Partnerships with municipalities and programs that incentivize citizens to download would have exponential improvements to local pothole fixtures.
