Inspiration
We were reminded of our Childhood days when presented with the theme of a campfire. As little kids, most of us would pretend to have a campfire inside our homes with our friends and family, there we would play games and make . Taking inspiration from this wonderful feeling we decided to make a game about a little flame lighting up a gloomy foggy world that lights up everyone's heart along the way. Centered around joy and hard work, together our character and his friends will find his way back home.
What it does
Provides a heartfelt story as the main character travels the world
How we built it
We created a website using Weebly. Inside it, we created a button that opens another window containing the game. This feature was made using the react-unity-webgl npm package. The game itself was made in unity.
Challenges we ran into
- Encountered some trouble with obstacle scripting
- Reading through the documentation and learning the intricacies of a new npm package
- Time constraints limiting our creativity
- Learning certain unity concepts in the limited time frame
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Creating a game in less than two days
- Creating an awesome website
- Good efficient communication
What we learned
- Use Weebly to create a website
- Use Unity to create a game
- Use react-unity-webgl to link the website and unity game
What's next for Way Back Home
We plan to expand on the visual storytelling aspects with custom assets that set the atmosphere alongside more game mechanics and better level design to keep the player engaged.
