Why Water Woke? Our app was inspired by wanting to create an app that can be used to raise awareness about the environment. Water became our focus after learning that 70% of water waste comes from indoor usage. With this in mind, our app shows people how much water they’re using based on their daily or weekly water based activities. With this data, we wanted to tell people where they fell within the range of efficiency. They’ll either be efficient, in the average of the US population or wasteful. We built our project on MATLAB’s App Designer because the majority of our team had prior experience using it. App Designer works by building the GUI by adding components and then coding callback functions attached to the components. We originally planned to have more app windows, however it was difficult to determine how to share data between multiple app files.
RU Water Woke? Our app provides the user personalized recommendations based on their water consumption data. You can compare your water usage totals to average national consumption data to see if you are on track with the average, highly efficient, or inefficient. Based on your data, we provide you with personalized recommendations to meet your needs, the user can choose what percentage of their total use they want to cut down on and decide which water use areas they want to address to meet their goal. Then based on these inputs, our app outputs actionable goals to help the user adapt their current usage.
Future Goals Create memory storage system so that users can track data over a period of time to see if they are meeting their water reduction goals. Compare profile with other users so you can track goals with friends, and define a reward system for met water goals.
