Inspiration
We were inspired by the low water quality in Chad. After some digging we found that improving water quality is a top priority in global sustainability development. Poor water is not only bad for nature, but also bad for the people that rely on it. Millions of people around the world use water from contaminated bodies of water; this is a serious health problem
What it does
This game allows players to come up with solutions to lower pollution in a river. They can use natural barriers, water treatment facilities, and sewage pipes to reduce the pollution. They have try to meet a minimum pollution threshold before the time runs out or before they run out of money.
How we built it
We used Unity to make the virtual environment and we used C# to program the interactions.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest problem was finding tutorials on this that were relevant to the packages and Unity version we were using. Most of the tutorials online, even the ones that are only 1 year old, aren't compatible with the current version of unity or Open XR.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Were proud really proud of the environment we created and the animation/movement in the river.
What we learned
We learned a lot about scripting in unity, General knowledge about XR project setup, and a lot about water pollution around the world
What's next for Water 4 Chad
The next goal is to turn this VR application into a MR application. We want to use really rivers from around the world and give players access to more realistic solutions to solve this issue. This might be a fun game for right now, but this can be used as a tool to protype real life solutions.
