Inspiration
Our project was inspired by our love of games, especially visual novels. We wanted to create an experience where players could interact with characters in a meaningful way while exploring a rich, dynamic scenery of Charlottesville.
What We Learned
Throughout this project, we learned a lot about:
- Music creation and how to integrate it into games.
- The process of putting together a game, from ideation to execution.
- Idea creation and crafting a cohesive story for the player.
- Teamwork and the importance of assigning roles and tasks effectively.
- More about game development as a whole, including Unity, art design, and game mechanics.
How the Project Was Built
We built the game on Unity, leveraging its powerful features for storytelling and interaction. We hand-drew the sprites and other art assets, ensuring a unique visual style. Additionally, we created a storyboard to outline the narrative structure and visual flow of the game. We also composed the music and designed mini-games to enrich the experience.
Challenges
Some of the main challenges we faced included:
- Learning Unity, especially for team members who hadn't worked with it before.
- Balancing schoolwork with the demands of game development, which required good time management and prioritization.
Accomplishments that we're Proud of
We are proud that we were able to conduct research on beloved areas of C'ville, create a witty script that incorporated fun facts on our beloved town, and learn Unity and other aspects of game development all while creating a fun exploration based game to venture around Charlottesville while helping the community!
What's next for Wahoo Wandering
We want to add more levels around Downtown Mall and C'ville to showcase the rich culture and community of the town and introduce a larger variety of characters to the story!
