Inspiration

This game was created with the idea of adding fun to learning. Users can play this game while learning a lot about the environment and about various eco-friendly infrastructures.

What it does

Waffleville is a city building game with a twist. Instead of trying to earn as much money as possible, the player must reduce the city’s CO2 emissions by developing eco-friendly infrastructure.

How we built it

Waffleville was built using python and the pygame library for graphics. We drew all the icons using digital art, and then we copied them onto the screen using pygame.

Challenges we ran into

A significant challenge that we ran into was the drawing function of pygame. As we were unfamiliar with it, the copying of the drawings onto the screen was very slow and therefore resulted in a lot of lag. At first, it seems difficult to fix, however, through research and debugging, we were able to come up with a faster method, and so, we were able to effectively solve the issue.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The overall experience of working with a team and finishing a project in a short amount of time is a new challenge we faced. However, we were able to successfully learn on the go. We communicated, worked hard, and solved problems together to come out with a functional and creative game.

What we learned

Throughout this experience we learned a lot about how to use github, python and pygame. We also learned how to effectively collaborate with team members online.

What's next for Waffleville

This experience has given us more confidence in creating games and has inspired us to potentially continue to build on Waffleville. We plan to continue to expand the game, adding in more icons and functions.
