Inspiration
Young people are lazy, disenfranchised, etc. They don't want to participate in the voting process. But they LOVE expressing their thoughts on social media!
What it does
We scour through Twitter for recent tweets regarding the presidential campaigns. Using sentiment analysis and linear regression to compare and line up our results with past elections and primaries, we generate a score for each candidate, and attempt to predict primaries and election results from social media posts..
How I built it
Frontend: d3.js, jQuery, Bootstrap Backend: Flask, MLDB, Azure
Challenges I ran into
Long turn-around time for big data analysis Twitter's 7 day API access limit
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
What I learned
How to use MLDB
How results contrary to assumptions may lead to new conclusions
