To ensure everyone can make their voice heard.
Inspiration
The inspiration for Votify came from the need to simplify access to election information and make voting easier. We noticed that many people struggle to find clear, reliable details about upcoming elections, candidates’ stances on key issues like abortion, LGBTQ+ rights, gun policies, climate, homelessness, and immigration, and their elected representatives. With the catchphrase “Because Democracy Isn’t a Guessing Game,” we wanted to create a tool that empowers users to easily access this information and feel confident in their voting decisions.
What It Does
Votify helps users stay informed about elections and candidates. Users can find their current elected representatives by entering their ZIP code and view detailed profiles with the representative’s name, office, party, contact info, and photo. The platform also offers side-by-side comparisons of candidates for local and national races, including bios, general info, headshots, and positions on key issues. It lists bills candidates have supported or passed with simple summaries and includes a policy accountability feature to compare their promises to their actions. The homepage has three quick preview cards: Rep Profile, Candidate Compare, and Election Dates.
Accomplishments We're Proud Of
We’re proud of making a platform that simplifies finding elected representatives and comparing candidates. Integrating the APIs was also a rewarding task.
What We Learned
We learned how to organize and present complex political info in a simple way.
What's Next For Votify
We want to integrate more language options to improve accessibility. Also, we want to be more purposeful with how we would expand this to multiple countries.
