Inspiration

When voting for midterms in 2022, one of the members found it difficult to compile information about different candidates. She ended up creating a Google doc to compare the options. For the hackathon, we decided to automate this process for the city of Boston to increase voter awareness.

We're a group of 3 immigrants and 2 young voters. We can see that there's a need for people like us to easily access information about upcoming ballot measures and know what to expect on Election Day to make it to the polls.

What it does

Our app helps immigrants and young voters prepare for election day.

How we built it

We built our app using Javascript leveraging the React framework. We scraped data from the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts website to capture the unique ballots for each of the 276 precincts in Boston.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We came in second place at the Hackathon Olympics! We're proud of how well our team worked together and how quickly we were able to design and implement an MVP.

What's next for Voter Guide?

Improving UI and implementing Google Translate API to mimic the functionality on the Boston.gov website.
