Inspiration

The ability to vocally communicate with others is a vital component for people to integrate within society. Unfortunately, 11 million people are unable to speak to others due to disabilities solely in the US and that number touches around 500 million globally. Our team has a mutual friend that struggles with these very difficulties and we have seen the devastating impacts of this on his mental, physical and emotional health. As such, we wanted to use the code fest as a platform to enact positive change within this space

What it does

VoiceVista is a proof-of-concept of a future hardware project that uses AI to translate sign language into speech and output it through a speaker. The user just uses sign language(that they are accustomed to) and it uses AI to speak in English to others, serving as a mediator of effective communication amongst the differently abled and everyone else
