Team VivoDisk is building a first-of-its-kind automated microfluidic disk manufacturing line to support the next generation of tissue-based testing. We are working with Vivodyne, a local startup that relies on these disks for their drug discovery platform. Currently, these disks are manually manufactured in-house, which has proven inefficient, costly, and error-prone.
Human tissue-based testing is crucial to high-quality biological data, which are important for drug discovery and biological research. Existing conventional test methods are 2D and animal testing, but both methods have extreme tradeoffs that 3-dimensional tissue-based testing solves. Microfluidic disks are key to growing complex tissue models; in this way, this work enables and accelerates the future of biological research.
