Inspiration

Seeing mental health as a very real and serious issue that personally affects all of us, we were inspired to brainstorm ideas that could not only benefit others, but ourselves too.

What it does

It measures the soil moisture of the plant's soil and the humidity of the plant's environment and then shows a persona (either smiling or sad) that reflects the condition of the plant. Additionally, a photoresistor is used to ensure sufficient light is present.

How we built it

Using laser-cut wood and acrylic glass, together with Arduino sensors and microcontrollers.

Challenges we ran into

  • Creative ideas block
  • Wiring issues

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Getting the product to function well
  • Being able to coordinate the team well

What we learned

  • Importance of teamwork
  • How to laser-cut, and use new chips like ESP32-S3

What's next for VivaLaVista

  • A Bluetooth device that can be put onto the user, and when nearby the plant, initiates the plant to engage in an AI conversation.
  • An application with an intuitive UI
  • More Compact and Elegant design/infrastructure
  • Accessibility and Affordability
