Inspiration
The inability of students to afford college fees inspired me to create this. According to Research.com,
51.04% of students drop out because they cannot pay for college (What to Become, 2021).
55% of students struggle to financially support their education, which results in 79% of them delaying their graduation (ThinkImpact, 2021)
$3.8 billion is consequently lost each year (ThinkImpact, 2021).
In the next 10 years, taxpayers are expected to absorb $31 billion in losses, due to more students defaulting on their loans (EDI, 2021).
What it does
Virtual Science Library is a Library for underprivileged and privileged individuals who cannot or can afford college tuition. This Science library, delivers lectures' to individuals alongside experiments on each topic. These experiments can be carried out at home by the individual.
How I built it
I built this using AWS PartyRock which is an Amazon bedrock playground for building apps.
Challenges I ran into
Being able to host videos of laboratory experiments from any science topic.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
People can access science books and resources anywhere, anytime without feeling sidelined because of inability of college fees. Various individuals through this app, will understand better the world of Science from anywhere across the world.
What I learned
I learnt how to use AWS PartyRock which is quite easy to navigate. I learnt also how to create a app without code.
What's next for Virtual Science Library
- Having videos on the application for various science experiments.
- Sending this app to countries across the world especially third world countries where lots of people cannot afford education.
