Inspiration
From our personal experiences with hybrid and online learning, we experience, first-hand, the struggles and gaps between access to resources from teachers everyday. We wanted to create a website that would help solve these issues and make the learning process a better experience for both teachers and students.
What it does
It is a website that is basically a virtual whiteboard that allows teachers and students to learn and communicate in a better way in either hybrid or online learning. Teachers and students will be able to ask and answer questions and chat. Teachers can go through lessons and write information along the way, and the board information can be erased. It can be streamlined across all classes and teachers can either have separate whiteboards or reuse the same one for different periods and subjects.
How we built it
We used HTML, JavaScript, and CSS to program the website. We all actively collaborated on the project by using repl.it. We also used resources such as the Office Hours and the Internet. We tried to implement the chat box feature separately, and then added it into our main website.
Challenges we ran into
We had trouble formatting the website. We could not figure out how to get the board box and the chat box next to each other. Other challenges were the concerns of the website and how it would be used efficiently and if teachers and students would respond well to it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to implement the updating chatbox and board features, using an array that would be displayed after it is updated. We are proud of figuring out how to format the website using the grid feature of HTML.
What we learned
We learned a lot of new code with HTML and CSS and different ways to format and implement it into the other code. It was an interesting experience, we learned time management and how to work together. We learned more code than before and how to use it. Also we learned how the google employees code sometimes, they explained where they find code from.
What's next for Virtual Learn-Board
For the future, we have some add-ons and functions that we would like to add to elevate the website. We can implement a scribble feature where the teacher or student could draw and scribble using different colors, shapes, and tools. Another useful function would be accounts for all the students and teachers so that students could join classes with a code and be able to have their name and profile picture show up. We also want to have an option for private messaging the teacher or other students if one doesn’t feel comfortable saying something in the chat which everyone can see. Lastly, we think it would be beneficial to be able to save the whiteboards and pages of information and then post it on the website so students could go back and look at it if they missed anything or wanted to note it down.
