Inspiration

Love Island USA Season 6 pulled 15 million viewers on Peacock. Its cast now appears on Vogue covers, at the Oscars, in brand deals worth millions. But nobody has built a product that lives inside that cultural moment and actually teaches Gen Z something useful. Financial literacy content exists everywhere — nobody uses it. Because reading a pamphlet about APR at 22 is nobody's idea of a good time. But everybody watches Love Island.

What it does

Villa Vault puts you in the Villa. You visit the Beach Hut daily to confess your financial struggles to our AI narrator — voiced by ElevenLabs in the style of the iconic Love Island USA narrator. Upload a confusing financial document and the narrator reads it like a best friend who actually looked at your bank account. On Recoupling Night, the narrator hosts 15 personalized trivia questions based on your uploaded documents and chosen topics. Top players stay in the Villa. The rest get Dumped. Every Sunday, the Fire Pit Ceremony reveals the Villa Standings.

How we built it

  • Next.js for the full-stack framework
  • Gemini 1.5 Flash for document analysis and personalized AI conversation
  • ElevenLabs for the Love Island USA narrator voice
  • MongoDB Atlas for user profiles, session history, and leaderboard data
  • Capital One Nessie API for realistic mock financial data powering trivia scenarios
  • Tailwind CSS for the Love Island USA themed UI

Challenges we ran into

Integrating four APIs simultaneously while maintaining the Love Island voice and personality across every interaction was the core challenge. Getting Gemini to consistently respond in narrator style required careful prompt engineering. The ElevenLabs voice design had to capture the wit and timing of the show's narration without referencing protected IP.

Accomplishments we're proud of

Building a fully voiced, Love Island USA themed financial literacy platform in 24 hours. The Beach Hut confessional feels genuinely like the show — dramatic, warm, and actually educational.

What we learned

Financial literacy doesn't have to be boring. The format matters as much as the content. Gen Z learns through entertainment — and if the vehicle is right, the knowledge follows.

What's next for Villa Vault

Casa Amor comeback challenges for dumped players, real Capital One account integration, weekly celebrity islander financial tips, and a mobile app on Peacock.
