Inspiration
We have always seen small businesses trying to advertise their food on places like "facebook marketplace" and other sales sites. We thought that these hyper-small mobile businesses needed a place to advertise to people specifically interested in trying new "underground" spots. Food trucks and other street vendors are seen all around the world's major cities so a project that can help them and the local economy felt like a good idea!
What it does
It allows small street vendors to register their food trucks/food stands onto an interactive map. Users can then login and see what food trucks are nearby, filter out based on what they want to eat, stimulating their local economies and helping out small businesses.
How we built it
We utilized Flask, JavaScript, SQLite3, HTML, Tailwind
Challenges we ran into
We had some merge conflicts, which is pretty typical. Outside of that Eshaan, on the front end, had some problems with configuring Tailwind at the start and then some problems with customized classes. Krishna encountered problems with SQLite3, querying data, utilizing sessions in python flask.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Overall, creating something that promotes small businesses is pretty fulfilling, in terms of our project we were proud of working using Leaflet maps as our main source of input. It was interesting because we usually API's like this for data and not a means of input.
What we learned
We both learned a lot, Krishna learned a lot with SQLite3 and utilizing Leaflet, Eshaan picked up tailwind and he learned a lot more about UX, thanks to the workshop!
What's next for Vendi
We are looking to add a more social aspect, rating systems etc. We are most likely going to focus in on a "follower" system so users can track their favorite vendors and be returning customers.
