Inspiration

The inspiration behind the VefiFIR project stems from a commitment to address and rectify systemic issues within the traditional First Information Report (FIR) system in India. The existing challenges, including delays, corruption, and a lack of transparency, have fueled a passion for creating a positive impact on the criminal justice system.

What it does

VefiFIR is a blockchain-based solution aimed at transforming the traditional First Information Report (FIR) system in India. The project addresses issues such as delays, corruption, and lack of transparency in the current system. By leveraging blockchain technology, VefiFIR provides a decentralized, tamper-proof platform for citizens to report crimes and initiate investigations. The use of IPFS and Filecoin ensures secure and distributed storage of evidence, enhancing overall system resilience. The project reflects a commitment to innovation, transparency, and social impact in the criminal justice domain.

How we built it

The journey began with a recognition of the challenges plaguing the traditional First Information Report (FIR) system in India. Delays, corruption, and a lack of transparency prompted a group of passionate individuals, including myself, to embark on a mission to reimagine and rebuild the system.

Early Challenges

Our initial attempt to integrate React.Js and MongoDB for the FIR web app faced unexpected hurdles. Despite our best efforts, the technologies didn't seamlessly align. Rather than succumbing to the challenges, we embraced the opportunity to pivot and explore alternative solutions.

Pivot to Success

The decision to shift gears led us to Flask and MySQL, proving to be a pivotal moment in the project. This combination, coupled with blockchain technology, offered a more robust and efficient framework for our FIR system. The integration flowed smoothly, showcasing the power of adaptability in the face of adversity.

Blockchain Integration

The adoption of blockchain technology became the cornerstone of our project. By deploying a decentralized, transparent, and tamper-proof platform, we addressed the core issues of the existing FIR system. The inclusion of IPFS and Filecoin for evidence storage added an extra layer of security, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
