Inspiration
We created Valley Runner with the express intent of competing for the Cradle challenge - best game at Hack the Valley 7.
What it does
It is an endless runner video game with custom music. You can listen to our music by following the links below:
How we built it
It was built with the Unity Game Engine/Editor, using C# as the programming language.
Challenges we ran into
Initially, we struggled to properly remove resources that our character had already passed, but we found a better way of managing our memory and fixed our issues with terrain management.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our game includes unlimited, random terrain generation, custom music, and sound effects, leaderboards, and a custom UI.
What we learned
One interesting thing we learned was how to use Beepbox to create easy, simple music and sound effects for our game. We also learned how to build a system for random terrain generation on a small, linear scale.
What's next for Valley Runner
We want to improve the game further by allowing the terrain generation to produce curvature and a wider variety of terrain designs. It is also a goal to create a pickup system for some kind of reward for players (i.e. coins, stars, etc...), which ideally will be used for character customization.
