Inspiration

SustainBillity aims to empower property managers to make smarter decisions about their resource usage. We’re addressing the growing need for actionable insights to promote sustainability and efficiency. The goal is to inspire proactive steps toward reducing waste and conserving resources.

What it does

SustainBillity provides users with an intuitive dashboard to track and analyze their resource consumption in real time. Some main categories we focused on were energy consumption, water management, waste management, HVAC performance, and more. The platform aggregates this data into clear visualizations, giving users a snapshot of their environmental impact and actionable recommendations. Users can also think about the long-term with the ability to set goals and view energy consumption and costs over time.

How we built it

SustainBillity was built using a mix of modern web technologies to ensure a responsive, user-friendly experience. Nuxt.js with Vue.js provided the flexibility of a powerful front-end framework with server-side rendering for optimal performance. Basic HTML, JavaScript, and CSS formed the foundation for building the structure and style of the app.

UI Components: Calendar: To track daily, weekly, and monthly consumption data. Line Graphs and Charts: Interactive visualizations to analyze trends and patterns in resource usage. Navigation Bar: Ensured smooth navigation between different sections of the app, keeping the user experience intuitive.

Each component was designed to work seamlessly within the Nuxt.js framework, ensuring a fast, responsive, and visually engaging platform.

Challenges we ran into

Our main issue was pushing past the initial hurdles of setting up the project and learning how to use Vue and Bootstrap. We also needed to make meaningful improvements to our design to ensure it was addressing all the user's needs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud of the way we were able to design an intuitive dashboard that provides actionable insights with minimal user effort. We also achieved a seamless balance between technical depth and user-friendly functionality. These will all be the stepping stones to creating a resource that can predict the trends we currently track.

What we learned

Throughout this experience, we were able to greatly improve our design skills and create effective designs that are actually useful to the user. Additionally, we were able to learn a lot about important practices for sustainability and their measurable impacts.

What's next for UtilStats

Using the foundation we have built, we hope to further develop the website to implement a robust, scalable backend system to enhance data processing speed and reliability. In the future, we want to further improve the site to utilize predictive analytics to forecast trends in resource consumption and recommend preventative measures.
