Google Stepbros - USocial

How many times have you, as a first-year student especially, experienced a lonely day? USocial is a social network that helps you connect with people who match your schedule, your gaps and faculty!

Inspiration

As first-years ourselves, we have felt this disconnect when trying to find people who are so close to us, in our class!

What it does

USocial is a website that allows you to create your account, upload your schedule and get matched with a person whose schedule matches yours!

Backend - After user uploads their calender, algorithm extracts relevant information and matches it to others on the database to find a match!

How we built it

Our project had 2 halves, front-end and back-end. Front-end included 4 webpages for different functionalities such as Sign-Up, Your Profile and your Match

Challenges we ran into

Connecting the back-end API with the front-end was our hardest challenge

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Building the entire website and the algorithm for matchmaking from scratch is what we are most proud of.

What we learned

We learned a lot about HTML, CSS and JS along with API and Flask to experience a full-stack environment.
