Inspiration

Want to play D&D but are missing a player or two? Play with D&D Unlimited, a Discord bot that mimics your favorite podcaster's character! Powered by Honcho trained with days of each podcaster's actions, you can interact with your favorite podcaster's characters such as Beverly Toegold, a Hafling Paladin who's known for being an "extremely good boy".

What it does

D&D Unlimited is a Discord bot designed to spice up your campaign by mimicking the actions of your favorite podcasters' characters. By training our bot with Honcho's agentic model and extensive transcripts, the bot can act as if the podcaster themselves were another player at the table. We give the bot a character sheet, rules, and various items to choose from, so you can see what your favorite podcaster would do in your campaign.

How we built it

As a hackathon project, we focused on speed and efficiency. We used Honcho.dev's agentic model, training it with thousands of hours of podcast transcripts to accurately mimic the characters. Once the model was trained, we built a Discord bot to bring its behaviors to your server.

The project's landing page was designed on Figma and then imported into Loveable on Builder.io for a quick build. To handle payments and distribution, we integrated Flowglad for our payment system and created a download API that allows users to easily add the bot to any Discord server.

Challenges we ran into

The one-day hackathon presented a significant time crunch. We started with "vibe coding" using tools like Loveable, Claude, and Gemini, but had to focus and lock in to complete the project on time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have created a useful tool for thousands of D&D players, using cutting-edge AI to enhance their gaming experience. The project was a massive learning opportunity, as we successfully integrated a multitude of AI tools and combined various skill sets to bring our idea to life.

What we learned

This project taught us how to use a wide range of AI tools, including Honcho.dev, Flowglad, and Loveable. We also gained valuable experience in building a financial payment system and accessing databases using RESTful APIs.

What's next for Unlimited D&D

Our next step is simple: we want to use D&D Unlimited in our own campaigns!
