Inspiration
Our inspiration starts with a personal ordeal with the cumbersome process of accessing medical care at college. Last year, my struggle with blurry vision and the subsequent, frustrating attempt to navigate the student health center's unwieldy website for an appointment highlighted a widespread issue. Further complications happened with a referral to a hospital, where instead of receiving digital, straightforward instructions, I was burdened with a stack of confusing paperwork. Conversations with some of my friends showed me this was a common frustration, which made us realize there should be a resolve to create a change.
Driven by this experience, I and my team members started to create a user-friendly, accessible platform tailored for college students across the USA, aiming to simplify their access to medical care. This idea isn't just about developing an app; it's about transforming the healthcare experience for students, ensuring no one else faces the same hurdles. Our project seeks to bridge the gap between students and healthcare services, making the journey to wellness more straightforward and empathetic.
What it does
We created a mobile application designed to streamline and simplify the process of obtaining medical treatment for college students in the USA. The app aims to provide a comprehensive solution for students seeking medical assistance.
How we built it
We began developing this project with a detailed contextual inquiry, observing a user booking an appointment through the existing system to identify key problems and behaviors. The Insights we got from this observation led us to the creation of interview questions, which were then used to interview three users for qualitative feedback data.
Based on the interviews, we synthesized the responses to design an information architecture in FigJam, mapping out the organization of information and navigational paths to ensure user-friendliness. This groundwork led to the design phase in Figma, where we focused on creating three main user flows: making appointments, checking upcoming appointments, and updating profile information.
With this user-centered approach, our project grounded in real user experiences and feedback, aimed to streamline the platform's usability, thus making it intuitive and efficient for our users - college students to navigate their healthcare needs.
Challenges we ran into
Definitely time constraints, we don’t have enough time to do real usability testing to check how our users respond to the design we do.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We did a contextual inquiry and interviewed 3 users and we gained solid qualitative data for us to design. We finished designing 3 main user flows and 3 prototype mock-up to exhibit the functions and features of our application. With the limited time we had, we are proud of what we achieved.
What we learned
Team collaboration and communication are essential when it comes to a big project. Talking to teammates can help get fresh ideas and feedback.
What's next for UniWell
Recruit potential users to participate in usability testing and finish the user flow of getting instructions.
