Inspiration
The inspiration behind our project stems from the experience one of our teammates had. Unfortunately, one of his family members passed away from opioid misuse. "Every day, more than 130 people in the United States die after overdosing on opioids" and these events cause ripples of pain throughout our communities."
What it does
Our web application will provide families and those affected directly by the crisis, with support, resources, and a community to fall back on. We're aware of the use of social media and how support groups often try to share information via that platform. The issue that arises is the unmoderated content and chance of inaccurate information. Due to this, a chat bot that replies with information provided by a professional would be the solution.
How we built it
Using React js, css, and the google cloud platform we built our user interface.
Challenges we ran into
We attempted the Flask web development microframework but it proved to have too many components to incorporate in a limited time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the concept, our ability to learn React.js, flask, and google cloud services.
What we learned
We learned a lot of information about the opioid crisis, struggles that families deal with everyday, and abour online chat forums for support.
What's next for United in Crisis
Our plan is to continue developing the app and adding more features.
