## Inspiration Applying to universities can be overwhelming and confusing, especially for students who don’t have access to proper guidance. Many rely on scattered information, random forums, or guesswork to make some of the most important decisions of their lives. We wanted to build something that truly levels the playing field, a tool that provides high-quality, personalized admissions support to every student, regardless of where they come from. That idea became UniBridge, an AI-powered college counselor designed to simplify and support the entire application journey.

What it does

UniBridge is an all-in-one AI college counseling companion that helps students navigate their entire admissions process with ease. It includes an AI University Finder that matches students to universities based on their academic background, goals, and financial situation. A responsible AI Application Analyzer and the SOP Rater evaluates SOPs, resumes, and essays and provides clear, helpful feedback without generating full content, ensuring compliance with admissions policies. The AI Counselor offers personalized advice on majors, countries, scholarships, and application strategy. The interface includes thoughtful UX features like smooth auto-scrolling, animated message reveals, and one-tap deep dives like from the University Finder, students can instantly jump to the counselor chat with a pre-filled prompt. Together, these features give students clarity, confidence, and a guided admissions experience.

How we built it

We built UniBridge using Lovable, taking advantage of its modular, component-based AI builder. Each feature is powered by specialized prompt engineering: the University Finder uses structured multi-step reasoning prompts, the Application Analyzer and the SOP Rater relies on a rubric-based system for reliable feedback, and the AI Counselor uses flexible conversational prompts. The UI and interaction design were shaped through dedicated UX prompts that control auto-scroll behavior, message animations, layout spacing, and visual consistency. By coordinating the logic behind each AI component and ensuring smooth transitions between features, we created a cohesive and intuitive user experience.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was getting the AI to produce consistent, accurate multi-step results without overwhelming the user. Ensuring the Application Analyzer and the SOP Rater provided balanced feedback while respecting academic integrity guidelines required several iterations. We also struggled with UI/UX tuning, features like auto-scroll and animated responses took time to perfect. Another challenge was balancing simplicity and functionality so that the tool remained powerful but still beginner-friendly. Despite these hurdles, we achieved a smooth and reliable application experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that UniBridge delivers a clean, accessible experience that students can genuinely benefit from. Our University Finder produces relevant, personalized suggestions, the Application Analyzer and the SOP Rater gives helpful, ethical feedback. The AI Counselor feels intuitive and supportive, and the interface includes thoughtful interaction elements that enhance usability. Most importantly, we built a tool that does not feel like a prototype, it feels like something students can actually use today.

What we learned

Throughout the development process, we learned how crucial structured prompt engineering is when building a multi-feature AI tool. We discovered how much UI/UX impacts trust and usability, especially in tools meant for students. We also learned how to simplify complex admissions concepts into clear, actionable advice. Ultimately, the project taught us to think from the student’s perspective—emphasizing clarity, organization, and confidence.

What's next for UniBridge

Our next steps include expanding UniBridge into a more comprehensive platform. We plan to add a Scholarship Matcher, a Deadline Tracker with reminders, a Document Organizer for essays and transcripts, and an AI Interview Coach. We also aim to release a mobile version and explore partnerships with educational institutions for real-time admissions insights. The long-term vision is to make UniBridge the most accessible and intelligent platform for students navigating their academic futures.
