Inspiration
We think that Texas A&M still has a long way to go to include LGBTQ+ community in all aspects. We want to take part in changing that culture and making them included in Aggie Family.
What it does
It is a year-long campaign at A&M to engage and support LGBTQ+ members in a comprehensive way, both physical and social.
How we built it
We researched, talked with people from LGBTQ+ community, had brainstorming sessions for ideas and came up with the project.
Challenges we ran into
We could not locate or enter the gender-neutral toilets on campus while looking for them. Another challenge was how broad this issue was, especially given the fact that Texas A&M is conservative in some ways.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We think our project is very practical and adoptable. We believe a year long strong marketing campaign to re-brand Texas A&M as a LGBTQ+ friendly community can be achieved. We can provide a safe place for students from all communities to have their voices heard
What we learned
It deals with a pressing issue and it should be a priority to make students from LGBTQ+ community more comfortable and welcoming.
What's next for (Un)walk the Straight Path
Through the proposed design guidelines, we can retrofit existing bathrooms on campus to be gender-neutral. Through crowdmapping, we can provide information about the exact location of unisex bathrooms across campus. We wan to re-brand Texas A&M and make it county's one of the best LGBTQ+ friendly campus.
