Inspiration
Snapmaps and Discord are great but they do not allow students to see where hubs are interactively (or notify them based on location).
What it does
The app allows students to update hubs around campus and view them using an interactive map.
How we built it
We used React Native for Frontend and AWS for backend.
Challenges we ran into
We struggled to implement the UI as well as configuring the AWS due to its sheer complexity (none of us were familiar with AWS or React before).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a functioning app with little to no experience with the programming languages involved.
What we learned
We learned about how to code in React, use AWS, and Expo, and how to use the internet as a resource in creating a project. We also learned how to communicate our difficulties to one another and help each other out when we got completely stuck.
What's next for UChi-Hub
We plan on implementing geo-based notifications so that, when a student enters a building, they can learn what is happening in the building (what events are taking place, which friends of theirs are "down to get Pizza" or "open to study"). We also hope to extend the map to include additional buildings and different campuses, as well as status updates.
