Inspiration
I feel that typing in VR/MR is quite painful for most users. I remember that in the old days people used typing games to improve their skill with physical keyboards. I think that the same approach might be useful for mixed reality, especially for people who intend to work in VR/MR full-time.
What it does
The app gives you texts to type in mixed reality and measures your speed in "words per minute".
How we built it
Using Unity and Meta SDKs
Music: Lo-Fi Chillout Music https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/audio/music/lo-fi-chillout-music-for-games-213270
Texts are based on Zamyatin's book "We" https://www.gutenberg.org/files/61963/61963-h/61963-h.htm
Challenges we ran into
Virtual keyboard provided by the SDK has very limited customization and only supports English.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The app was done in less than 3 days. Not only it works, it provides a useful training for VR/MR users.
What we learned
Lots of new things about Meta SDKs which are quite different from XR interaction toolkit.
What's next for Typing training
Better visuals, more interactive play modes, more texts, support of different languages.
