Inspiration
The rapidly declining sea turtle population inspired us to create a website that connects volunteers with beach turtle clubs and educates people about turtle conservation.
What it does
Turtle Haven is a website that serves as a platform for turtle conservation education, turtle tracking, and turtle rescue and rehabilitation. It includes features such as a volunteer sign-up system, a database of beach turtle clubs, a donation system, and tools for tracking and reporting turtle sightings.
How we built it
For all the documentation collaboration we used onlyOffice and taskade. We built Turtle Haven using a combination of web development tools such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python. We also utilized databases to create a seamless user experience. Initially we created a Figma prototype
Challenges we ran into
Different timezones and connecting database
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a website that not only encourages volunteer participation in turtle conservation efforts but also increases awareness about the importance of protecting turtle habitats.
What we learned
Through building Turtle Haven, we learned a lot about web development tools, APIs, and databases. We also learned about the importance of accessibility in website development and how to test for it.
What's next for Turtle Haven
Moving forward, we plan to continue improving the website by adding new features such as a community forum and expanding the turtle tracking and reporting tools. We also hope to partner with more beach turtle clubs and increase volunteer participation in turtle conservation efforts. We plan to add the real time data from IoT sensors on turtles on websites so that various researcher can gain insights and create effective solutions to save turtles
