Inspiration

We were united in our belief that misinformation and fake news were significant problems that needed to be addressed and were motivated by the idea of creating a tool that could help people navigate the vast amount of information available online and make sense of what was true and what was not. We were inspired by the potential impact that TruthPilot could have on society, and we worked tirelessly to ensure that the tool was accurate, efficient, and user-friendly.

What it does

TruthPilot uses natural language processing and machine learning algorithms to analyze news articles and determine their credibility. It flags articles that contain misinformation, bias, or false information, and provides users with an explanation of why the article was flagged.

How we built it

To build TruthPilot, we leveraged specific preprocessed datasets and utilized the Hugging Face auto trainer, along with pretrained models like BERT for text classification. For the front end, we used React and for the backend, we utilized Flask. Through the use of these tools, we were able to create an efficient and powerful AI-powered tool that can accurately detect fake news and provide users with credible information to make informed decisions.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges we faced was ensuring the accuracy of the tool. Fake news can be subtle and difficult to detect, so we had to develop advanced algorithms and incorporate human feedback to ensure that the tool was as accurate as possible. We also had to work within the constraints of limited computing resources and ensure that the tool was fast and efficient.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the accuracy and efficiency of TruthPilot. We've tested the tool on a large dataset of articles and found that it is able to accurately detect fake news with a high degree of accuracy. We're also proud of the impact that the tool can have on society by helping people make more informed decisions and combatting the spread of fake news.

What we learned

We learned that developing an AI-powered tool is a complex and iterative process. We had to continually refine our algorithms and incorporate feedback from human moderators to ensure the accuracy of the tool. We also learned that it's important to consider the ethical implications of AI and ensure that the tool is not being used to stifle free speech or unfairly target certain individuals or groups.

What's next for TruthPilot

We plan to continue to improve the accuracy of TruthPilot and expand its capabilities to include other forms of misinformation, such as deepfakes and manipulated images. We also plan to explore ways to integrate the tool into social media platforms and other online channels to help combat the spread of fake news in real-time. Ultimately, our goal is to help people make more informed decisions and promote a more informed and responsible society.
