Inspiration
Travel planning can be frustrating when booking systems crash, hotels overbook, or flights delay. We wanted to create a system that intelligently adapts to a broken world — something that works even when traditional travel platforms fail. Protocol 404 inspired us to build fast, think later, and embrace chaos while still delivering value.
What it does
TripHack is an intelligent travel and hotel booking assistant that: Suggests flights and hotels based on real-time availability. Automatically adapts to delays, cancellations, or overbookings. Optimizes travel plans using AI, minimizing cost and maximizing convenience. Provides a chaotic-but-functional fallback when traditional systems break.
How we built it
We combined AI algorithms with live APIs to pull travel and hotel data. The system uses: A backend engine that evaluates flight and hotel options. Smart ranking logic to adapt plans in real time. A web interface for quick bookings. Chaos-handling routines that simulate “broken system” scenarios to test resilience.
Challenges we ran into
API rate limits: Some travel and hotel APIs restrict requests, requiring creative caching. Dynamic failures: Simulating “broken systems” in testing was tricky, but essential to match the hackathon theme. Time constraints: We had only 48 hours to implement an intelligent, adaptive system.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully built a prototype that can re-route bookings automatically when failures occur. Created an AI-based ranking system that optimizes choices under chaotic conditions. Completed a fully functional prototype in under 48 hours, embracing the hackathon spirit.
What we learned
Rapid prototyping under extreme constraints improves both coding speed and decision-making. Designing for failure is just as important as designing for success. Chaos can be harnessed into a functional, intelligent system.
What's next for TripHack
Integrate more travel APIs to increase coverage. Add predictive analytics for delays and cancellations. Expand the system to include multi-city trips and multi-modal transport options. Explore mobile app deployment for on-the-go adaptive bookings.
