Triangulate

Inspiration

Our group lives really far away from each other, so when we hang out, we often struggle to find things to do that make the travel time fair for everybody. So we wanted to create an app, that helps us with this. Think when-2-meet but the real question is where?!?!

What it does

You can create an event, give it the type of event (clubbing/hiking/etc), put in your home/starting location and share the link with your other friends. Using the link, your friends can then put in their home/starting location, and visually see activities on the map that are between you and your friends.

How we built it

Google maps/places API, turf.js, mongoDB to store the locations/events, reactjs.

Challenges we ran into

Getting the google maps API to work with React was a bit of a struggle, since it provided limited functionality.

That we got the basic functionality to work!

What we learned

Learnt how to deal with APIs better, how to do tasks concurrently, and the value of good design.

What's next for Triangulate

We've got tons of features we want to integrate. e.g. taking into account travel time and routes, fixing up the uiux, having a locations preview with reviews to give users suggestions of locations with a specific radius of the central meeting point...
