Inspiration

We took the theme of A Shot In The Dark for our inspiration full force in our ideas. Eventually locking in on the randomness we wanted to simulate, we decided to make a practical application of the theme. One that applied to an everyday problem, coming up with what to eat. So we decided to make a random recipe generator to spice up our meals. We agreed to build this into a webpage given all of our skills would aid well in web development. Finally resulting in our random recipe generator web page.

What it does

Our web page allows the user to select from one of three categories including appetizers, entrees, and desserts for their preferred recipe. Upon selecting the category the generator will build a custom recipe just for that category with a unique name, ingredients, and instructions for the user to follow at home.

How we built it

Built with php. The Random Recipes are generated by the C++ program. Each team member focused on their strengths to contribute to the project.

Challenges we ran into

Figuring out how to Connect our php to the c++ program. Thought about implementing an API for C++ but didn't have time. We then decided on having the C++ program generate plain txt files that php reads and displays on our website.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I think we are most proud of our ability to come together and make an end product. As this was our first group project like this for most of us we were diving into an all-new challenge and feel very accomplished with our ability to work together and overcome the challenges along the way.

What we learned

We learned a lot, most importantly how to work together as a team and apply our skills to contribute to a clean finished product. The mentors too were a huge help in teaching us new methods and even better programs to use in the future given the challenges we ran into with the programs we decided to use. A big learning point was how to work around a tight deadline and manage expectations, a beneficial ability in both the professional setting and challenges like e-hack.

What's Next for Trash Taste

Well, first things first will be some well-earned rest. However, after that, we will take away our lessons from e-hack to our workplaces and schools to apply in different ways. Even possibly making a future team up for some personal projects and events like e-hack in the
