Inspiration

We often hear our friends and family complaining about the terrible commute they had on the way to work. In 2022, Canadians spend “on average 54 minutes of commuting each day… [and] these longer travel times have a negative impact on mental health and general well-being for some people” (Thinkinsure 2022). If we are spending so much time going from point A to point B, why don’t we find a way to enjoy it more? In beautiful cities like Montreal, we have many modes of transport at our disposal. The TFU quiz allows consumers the opportunity to prioritize what is most important to them–cost, time, or comfort–and then will suggest the most optimal mode of transport based on their needs. TFU’s goal aligns with GM’s by helping consumers make the right choice to reach a world of “zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion”. While taking into account weather, traffic, safety, and cost, TFU will always encourage the most economically friendly and sustainable commute option while minimizing travel time.

What it does

This is a quiz that allows you to make the right decision when it comes to choosing your mode of transport in the city.

How we built it

We built it by using a combination of HTML, javascript and CSS.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges we faced was getting started as we had never made a website before.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our website and all the hard work we've put into it.

What's next for TransfortForU

We can add user-specific settings on whether they have a car, BIXI membership, etc. so they don’t have to re-enter all the information every time. We can include user priorities in their profiles to adjust how the decisions will be made. They can prioritize comfort, cost or time for their travel. Thus, the prices of ubers, gas prices and subscription packages will be taken into account when suggesting a mode of transport. By analyzing user performance, we can suggest transport subscriptions that would save our consumers money. This way we can also partner up with transport services like Uber Plus and DriveShare and make a promotional deal with them. We will integrate pulling data from weather sources in the area to reduce the number of questions/time needed to reach a verdict. In the future, we can include interactive maps to show the route and public transport stops nearby. Another potential feature could be to allow users to connect as “friends” over the app, and can offer the potential to “meet up” with other users on the way if they are going to the same destination.
