Inspiration

As rising high school seniors, we are currently in the process of preparing to apply to colleges, as are thousands of other students nationwide. We noticed how it is difficult to find the right resources for the process, and it seems impossible to have them all in one spot. So, we were inspired to fix this project by creating a website where students can find all the college prep resources they need in one place.

What it does

Track2Tomorrow helps students prepare for college through its resources and features. First, there is a career placement test that can help a student know what career may be best for them based on simple questions. Then, the website provides helpful resources for academic preparations for standardized tests. Track2Tomorrow also uses a Google maps API to display internships across the country that students can view to help build up their extracurriculars. Finally, there is a financial aid section that has resources and a simple financial aid calculator.

How we built it

We built Track2Tomorrow using React JS, which uses HTML and Javascript. We also challenged ourselves by using Tailwindcss, which was new to both of us, but we wanted to use this hackathon as a chance to learn it. We used Repl.it as our code editor, so we could easily collaborate.

Challenges we ran into

We had issues setting up the Google Maps API as we kept running into errors when coding it. Also, this was our first time using the API in React JS, so it was a different process than we were used to. However, we were able to adapt and overcome our problems together!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to create a website that could be useful to thousands of students across the country. We are also proud that we were able to learn Tailwindcss through this project and we hope to use it again in the future. We also got practice using Google maps API, which has a lot of potential in our future projects!

What we learned

We learned more about React JS, Google Maps API in React JS, and Tailwindcss. We also learned how to work together as a team, which was a great experience since we usually do hackathons individually. So, it was great to see what can be produced when you work together.

What's next for Track2Tomorrow

We hope to expand Track2Tomorrow so it is more detailed and includes more helpful resources and features. We understand that the website does not include everything that goes into the college process. So, we hope to also include sections that cover college essays, college searches, etc.
