Inspiration

A team member used to work at a company where at the end of the day, all the food that was expired was just tossed out. There was no company wide policy for the employees to use in regards to the food that is now wasted. We wanted to create an app that could be incorporated into companies so they can try to still make some type of profit with their expiring products instead of creating more food waste.

What it does

The app is supposed to be able to let the local branches of entrepreneurs keep each other updated if there is any extra food that is closed to expiring and one of the branches has their store closing earlier than the other. With the branches keeping each updated, one branch could send the expiring food to the other location so they could try to resell the food to the customers in that area but at a discounted price. For customers who want to help reduce food waste or are buying food on a budget, they can use the app to find places in their area that are selling their food at a discounted price.

Challenges we ran into

We're a team that met and formed at this hackathon so we had to figure what skillsets we each had and what we can create using what we know. Also we were unsure what category we were going to try and create our project with so by the time we started, it was a few hours into the event.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite our late start, we were able to create several prototypes on Figma for how our app will work as a website and as a mobile app. We were able to work together even though at some points we were not even in the same location but made sure to keep communicating with one another.

What we learned

We learned communication when working with a newly formed team.

What's next for Tom - Ate - Oh!

Hopefully in the future we can incorporate more features into this app like a rewards system for the customers and the entrepreneurs that would entice more people into using this app and reduce the food waste in their local area.
