Inspiration

We envisioned a revolutionary approach in an era dominated by centralized identity management systems and corporate-controlled networks. Our mission was to create a decentralized platform that empowers users with true digital autonomy.

What it does

The system allows individuals to register and authenticate themselves without the traditional constraints of usernames, emails, passwords, or 3rd party identity czars. Joining the network is a seamless process that combines cutting-edge blockchain technology with enhanced digital identity solutions:

Acquire Your Digital Key: Begin by purchasing a unique Non-Fungible Token (NFT), which serves as your exclusive 12-month Membership pass.
Unlock Your Digital Passport: Exchange your NFT for a Verifiable Credential Passport, a secure and portable digital identity document.
Sovereign Access: Using your Self-Sovereign Decentralized Identifier (DID) Wallet, complete your registration and gain ongoing access to the network.

This three-step process not only ensures robust security but also grants you full control over your digital identity. By leveraging NFTs, verifiable credentials, and DID technology, we've created a user-centric ecosystem that prioritizes privacy, ownership, and seamless interaction within our decentralized network.

How we built it

Our application leverages the Blocklet Framework, integrating multiple components from the ArcBlock ecosystem to create a powerful and efficient network. We began by developing the core user interface and functionality, followed by the integration of DID Connect. In the future, we plan to implement additional cosmetic updates to enhance and refine the overall user experience.

Challenges we ran into

We initially encountered challenges related to the complexities of developing a system for decentralized identities, including credential storage and verification. Fortunately, the ArcBlock Platform and DID Wallet supplied all the essential tools, transforming what we anticipated would take years into just a month of work.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Tōdai represents a significant advancement in the realm of Self-Sovereign Social Networks, and we take great pride in our contribution to the evolution of online networking. While we may not be the first in this space, we view our efforts as a pioneering step toward user-controlled, decentralized social interaction. We recognize that the landscape is rapidly changing, with the potential for similar initiatives to emerge, but we remain committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation in this field.

What we learned

The learning experience was truly remarkable. By utilizing W3C standard tools, we gained valuable insights into how the network we are building can evolve both now and in the future. As we delved deeper into the concept of decentralized identity, we began to realize the vast potential for new services. This understanding revealed that our network could expand in ways we had never previously envisioned.

What's next for Tōdai

Over the next year, we intend to introduce a dynamic 24-48 hour content refresh cycle that will continuously renew conversations by deleting older posts and comments. However, our most groundbreaking initiative is the development of AI agents for each user, giving them the ability to create a digital agent in their own image and the authority to speak in the user's name. These digital avatars will autonomously post, comment, and interact with both human users and other AI agents, creating a unique ecosystem of human-AI communication. This fusion of rapidly refreshing content and the interplay between human and artificial intelligence aims to foster an ever-evolving, possibly alien-like network of interactions. We anticipate this bold experiment will push the boundaries of digital communication, offering an exciting and unpredictable social experience as both the platform and AI agents adapt and evolve in response to user behaviors and preferences.
