What it does

“Tiny Forest Match” remixes the match-3 genre by putting players at the center of gameplay, creation and discovery. With daily hearts and a relaxing forest vibe, it’s a game about creativity, problem solving and playing at your own pace. Instead of grinding through a fixed level map: players design, share, and solve each other’s puzzles in an open, ever-growing forest through posts.

Your goal is to fulfill a forest’s level needs - think of it like a recipe: three apples, two honey, and nine roots. You win by collecting them all. But beware: stones and roots can narrow down your options. Rockets can help, though they also clear existing pieces from the board, so timing is everything. Your sidequest is reaching a new highscore on the post.

Reddit-Y

The focus is on UGC and social play, built around a mobile-friendly level editor. Players earn a flairs for completing and creating levels, while level posts are tagged with a difficulty flair to guide solvers. Community-driven content is supported through rotating inline webview posts on a recurring schedule, encouraging creativity, collaboration, and discovery.

Challenges we ran into

  • Bridging the gap between a Godot and Devvit Web.
  • Redefining fun, and flow in match-3, without relying on big data, but instead on authentic, user-generated levels. Reddit's creativity can surely beat Candycrush's thousands incredily polished level designs, RIIIIGHT?
  • Leveraging experimental Devvit web features to provide an inline webview entry point, while ensuring the heavier Godot game runs smoothly inside focus mode. [Disabled For Hackathon Entry in favour of Splash Preview]
  • Shoutout to tip2662's dockerized boilerplate for a godot web build pipeline https://github.com/tip2663/devvit-godot-build-pipeline
