Inspiration
My inspiration to build TimeOops was because of the fact that I usually waste hours and hours of my time on social media platforms especially on instagram. I always wish to be productive, and in the best way I always plan my day to be the most effective. But in the end I always end up wasting my time and that stresses me a lot. So I wanted something to remind me of the time that I am spending on these platforms but in a less stressful manner. Hence I developed TimeOops.
What it does
TimeOops helps users understand how their screen time is actually spent while scrolling through apps like YouTube, Instagram, and others. Instead of presenting boring usage numbers, it converts screen time into funny reminders and relatable real-life equivalents, such as sleep lost, steps that could have been walked, or tasks that could have been completed. The app focuses on awareness, not restriction.
How I built it
TimeOops was build as a mobile application using a clean and intuitive interface. Screen-usage data is processed to identify usage patterns, which are then translated into meaningful life equivalents using predefined logic. Friendly notifications and daily summaries are generated to keep the experience engaging and mental-health friendly.
Challenges I ran into
Understanding how to present time-usage data without making users feel guilty was a major challenge. Balancing humor with usefulness and keeping the app simple yet impactful also required careful design decisions.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I successfully transformed raw screen-time data into relatable insights that users can instantly understand. Creating a solution that addresses digital well-being without being intrusive is something I'm especially proud of.
What I learned
I learned that behavior change begins with awareness, not control. Presenting information in a relatable and human way can make technology more impactful and inclusive.
What's next for TimeOops
In the future, I plan to add personalized insights, optional focus modes, and deeper behavior analysis while continuing to prioritize privacy and user well-being.
