When was the last time you talked to a friend or family member who lives across the world?

For our team, it has been weeks since we last chatted with our grandparents who live overseas due to our busy schedules and the time differences. Similar to our situation, many people also struggle to initiate conversation with friends and family living in other regions of the world, yet wish that they could keep in touch with them more often.

With this realization, we considered the question: how might we use technology to support geographically separated relationships in maintaining a strong connection?

To address this problem, we created the app, Time Out Together, a platform intended to initiate and foster conversations with our loved ones, no matter how far apart they are. Whether this be with a high school friend group away at college or grandparents living in another country, this platform serves as a fun and convenient way to stay in touch with people in our life.

Every day, groups will receive a new prompt to respond to in a unique format, such as visual, text, or audio responses. Through these varying mediums, we hope to keep users engaged in connecting with their friends and family. Their responses will then be shared with the group, which can then be used to prompt conversation amongst each other. With Time Out Together, we strive to encourage people to stay connected and build strong and authentic relationships with their loved ones, regardless of where they are in the world.
