Inspiration

As a photographer, Max uses digital images to capture moments of his life and share these experiences with others. He finds that his creativity is constrained by current technology. He posts his work on social media, but mobile apps have limited filters that have become mundane--everyone has the same style. Feeling inspired, Max photographed the sunset. With his sequence of images, he used a video editing software to create a time-lapse. And in photoshop, he blended the images to create a composite, stacked photo. But these techniques are time-consuming and expensive (when Photoshop expired, Max was out of luck). Then he had the idea to put time-lapse video and stacked photos together in a time-streak that filters images over time. He teamed up with DaMarcus to write an easy-to-use application that makes creative visualizations real.

What it does

Time Lux is a fast and easy way of blending and filtering images and videos. Its filter effects are customizable. Time Users are not limited by their software skills, leaving room for them to fully explore their creativity.

How we built it

Using Unity, we made a program that filters and stacks images in a folder. The way the images are processed and stacked is customizable, and the output is a series of images which can be turned into video. Later, we sped up the process of filtering and stacking, and are working to support importing and exporting videos within the Unity application.

Challenges we ran into

Processing speed and developing filter functions have been challenges. We are resolving these.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our application works! Our second iteration is noticeably faster and more reliable.

What we learned

We have developed skills in photo processing and filtration, as well as a keen eye for the everyday experiences that can be made exciting and unique with Time Lux.

What's next for Time Lux

We plan to develop a business model and establish a working app that enables anyone to create amazing blended videos and photos. We envision working with other photographers to enhance their content.
